An additional Search button allows you to explore the content of the topics and find matches to your queries. For example, you can search for "Routing" and every topic that contains the word "Routing" will be listed at the Search tab, similar to the way keywords are listed at the Index tab. You may click any topic from the list and it is displayed in the viewer.
Unlike an Index tab that lists author-defined keywords (terms, synonyms, and cross-references), the Search lists words that are used within the content of topics. To find a topic, you may enter a word as it is applied in the topic. The Search tab displays every topic that contains the particular word or phrase.
Here are the basic rules for making queries:
Searches are not case-sensitive, so you can type your search in uppercase or lowercase characters.
You may search for any combination of letters (a-z) and numbers (0-9).
Punctuation marks such as the period, colon, semicolon, comma, and hyphen are ignored during a search.
Group the elements of your search using double quotes or parentheses to set apart each element. You cannot search for quotation marks.
Note: If you are searching for a file name with an extension, you should group the entire string in double quotes, ("file name.ext"). Otherwise, the period will break the file name into two separate terms. The default operation between terms is AND, so you will create the logical equivalent to "file name AND ext."
Advanced full-text search is also available.
